Part of the historic centre of Rimini, Borgo San Giuliano and the North Sea Park (Parco del Mare Nord) are Limited Traffic Zones (ZTL) and can only be accessed by authorised vehicles. So when access is forbidden for any unauthorised vehicle, be prepared to pay a fine.
Rules in Rimini historic centre and Borgo San Giuliano
From 1 July 2025, the activation of the new control system is accompanied by an update of the timetables and the areas covered by the restricted traffic zone, with the aim of protecting the historic centre from traffic and at the same time guaranteeing accessibility to points of interest for residents and operators. The area is presided over by thirteen gates equipped with video cameras between the historic centre and Borgo San Giuliano.
In the pre-operational phase (from 1 July 2025 until the autumn) the new system will be tested, to verify the correct functioning of the systems and, above all, it allowes people to familiarise themselves with the new regulations and, if necessary, to complete the permit application procedures, so violations detected by the control system will not result in penalties. Those who pass the electronic gate during the unauthorised hours and without authorisation will receive a notice from the Local Police on the instructions of the Mobility Sector of the Municipality of Rimini, informing them of the violation committed. The pre-exercise period will continue until autumn. Once this phase is over, on a date to be established by the Municipal Council with a specific deed, the sanctioning activity will start.

Access for hotel guests in the historic centre:
Access is allowed to vehicles of guests who have a booking in hotels situated in the historic centre: the pedestrian area - AP - and limited traffic zone - Z.T.L.
- the access to the vehicles will be granted through comunication of the vehicle licence plate by the hotel direction to Rimini Municipality.
ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone) - NORTH SEA PARK
Since 2023, the ZTL of the PARCO DEL MARE NORD is active every day from the Saturday before Easter until the second Sunday of September - so to access the area it is necessary to have an access permit.
In the period from the Saturday before Easter until May 31st the ZTL will be active only on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, while from June 1st to the second Sunday of September the ZTL will be active every day, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, with the exception of the sections between via Polazzi and via Palotta (between Viserbella and Viserba) and between via Borghesi and via Verenin Grazia (Viserbella), where access is forbidden only in the evening, from 8.00pm to midnight.

The permits issued in the 4 areas allow access only to the gates of the area in which the applicant is located.
Access for Hotel and Accommodation Guests
Access to hotel facilities is permitted for vehicles of guests heading to hotels and other accommodation facilities located in pedestrian areas (A.P.) and limited traffic zones (Z.T.L.). The hosting establishment will enable vehicle access by registering the license plate number provided by the guest through the portal made available by the Municipality of Rimini. It is also possible to request an exemption retroactively, within 72 hours of entry. For tourists staying in rental homes, the property owners are responsible for independently requesting vehicle access authorization for their tenants.
