Perhaps the most distinctive feature of Beethoven's creativity, the one that constitutes its most intimate beauty, is the process of work and effort through which the artist draws the work from the material. The idea around which the mini marathon develops is intended to be an explicit journey into Beethoven's workshop through the three phases of the composition of the Overture for his only opera: Leonora (later transformed into Fidelio). The three compositions spring from the same original seed, tending towards the same path from darkness to light, often crystallising into their own complete and unique identity. These were accompanied by the last three highly popular Concertos for piano and orchestra, each immersed in distinct expressive worlds: the third dramatic; the fourth lyrical, contemplative and epic; the fifth luminously metaphysical.
